“For the past three years ARTsmart has held me firmly on the ground. I will always be grateful for your generosity, support, and care in pursuing my dream of becoming a cartoonist.” DaYoung Jung, 2007 Scholarship Recipient

A career in the visual arts requires talent, but just as importantly, it requires skills. ARTsmart is committed to financially assisting exceptional high school seniors in pursuing art as a profession.

ARTsmart Scholarship Endowment. In 2007 ARTsmart established a Scholarship Endowment in conjunction with the Santa Fe Gallery Association.  Each year a panel comprising professional artists, gallery owners, and educators reviews the portfolios of gifted high school seniors, selecting one to receive a stipend.  In 2013, one scholarship was awarded in the amounts of $5,000. Two Books and Supplies Awards were granted in the amount of $400 each. Additionally, ARTsmart reviews past scholarship recipients and grants them a stipend for their forthcoming year, through graduation.  The scholarship award amounts vary year to year.

Artful Aspirations. ARTsmart is extremely proud of its scholarship recipients: DaYoung Jung, who graduated with a degree in illustration at New York School of the Visual Arts.  Corey Mandel, who is attending the art program at Bennington College in Vermont. Rebekah Birken, who is studying at New York University’s Steinhard School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Our 2011 recipient, Cheyenne Cardell, is studying fine art at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.  Diego Suarez, our 2012 scholar, is studying fine art at Cornish College of the Arts.  Our second 2012 scholar, Wesley Carr, is a part of the Honors Program at Alfred University in Alfred, NY. The 2013 recipient, Lydia Abernathy, is graduating from Santa Fe Prep and will be studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the fall.
