Teachers

Thank you ARTsmart for all the art material funds you raised. The way you provide funds directly to the art teachers is wonderful. It allows us to spend money right here in our community instead of relying on catalogs and big contracts. It also allows us to spend money on materials that might not be thought of as art materials, as well as second hand items and tools. And when we are caught off guard by a need for a material or tool, your funds allow us to go right to the store.

Plate by Justina CortezOne of this year’s big purchases was bolts of polar fleece, fuzzy rayon, stuffing, and needles to use on a sewing project with several classes. These materials are so much easier for little fingers to sew than felt. My fourth and fifth grade students designed and created their own stuffed animals. The students were personally motivated by this project. I could not have done it without you.

The I Made It! plate project and acrylic painting project both served as an esteem builder for some of my students at Kaune. Justina Cortez won a prize and even though she acted as though she didn’t care, I believe this project gave her a sense of pride that she brought to the rest of her projects this year. I think it did the same for Kody. The person who purchased his mouse and cheese plate totally lucked out!
